About Us

Carrie Wynkoop,
Founder & CEO

Right here in Oregon, in this little magical corner of the world, we have an extraordinary range of great wines.

For nearly ten years, Carrie shared her passion for Oregon wine through her wine club, Cellar 503.  She sent thousands of bottles of small producer Oregon wine to club members all over the country.

Along the way, she discovered the challenges that small winemakers face in creating their wines — especially in those first few years.  So she took her passion for Oregon wine, her love of small producers and created AVP Wine Collective.

Corey Schuster,
Winery Director

There’s a way you’re supposed to become a winemaker. You’re expected to apprentice in France or Italy, get a graduate degree in oenology, and find a millionaire investor.

Or, if you’re Corey Schuster, you answer an ad on Craigslist for a winery assistant to work on the harvest crew and pour wine in the tasting room.

Fast-forward ten years and Corey now has his own successful label, Jackalope Wine Cellars, and has worked in wineries all over the Willamette Valley.

Corey brings his winemaking — and people-wrangling — expertise to AVP to oversee all winemaking activities.  And we couldn't be more thrilled!

Sam Nawrath
Assistant Winemaker &
Special Projects Manager

When she moved to Oregon seven years ago to pursue a graduate program studying Art History, Sam never foresaw herself pursuing a career in wine production. After a few years of working in wine retail and assisting in cellars around the Columbia River Gorge and Portland areas, Sam connected with Corey of Jackalope Wine Cellars in 2020. Starting as a cellar hand, Sam joined Jackalope as Assistant Winemaker in 2023.

In her roles as Assistant Winemaker and Special Project Manager, Sam offers support to the in-house wineries at AVP through all steps of the winemaking process, from pressing to bottling and labeling. Additionally, she oversees custom crush production and special projects in collaboration with Winery Director, Corey Schuster.

The Meaning

Alis volat propriis is Latin for "She flies with her own wings" — the state motto of Oregon.  Not only significant for the amazing place we live in, but it also represents the foundations of AVP Wine Collective — encouraging and supporting winemakers to fly with their own wings.
